Benefits
Traditionally, benefits were negotiated and plans purchased at the institutional or local level. Through provincial bargaining, Federation of Post-Secondary Educators’ locals have achieved a common disability and sick leave plan. The Joint Committee on Benefits Administration has a mandate to oversee the plan and work on health and welfare benefits and disability benefits. While many locals continue to negotiate health benefits plans with their employers locally, a number of FPSE locals have chosen to participate in the common plan, which is provided through Maritime Life. More detailed information for locals who are in the common plan is available through their local employer website.
FPSE has established a Disability Management & Rehabilitation Committee, whose mandate is to assist locals to identify and assess the disability and rehabilitation needs of members and to support the development of local Joint Rehabilitation Committees.
