Pensions & Retirement

Post Secondary Educators' Pension Plans

Most members of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators are members of the College Pension Plan. FPSE support staff in public institutions are members of the Municipal Pension Plan.

Both plans are jointly trusteed, which means that unions appoint trustees to sit on the governing board. The FPSE appoints members to the College Pension Board of Trustees.

FPSE has recently published a paper entitled Our Pensions: Safe from Inflation or Not?" (pdf 2 pages, 17 kb).

At its March 24-25 2006 meeting, FPSE Presidents' Council received this discussion paper on mandatory retirement (pdf 13 pages, 222 kb).

Working with the College Pension Plan

FPSE’s Pension Advisory Committee provides advice and information to the FPSE and to its locals on pension-related issues.

Planning for Retirement

FPSE members who are considering retirement have access to excellent advice and resources through the College Pension Plan. Check out the on-line personalized pension estimator or the purchase of service estimator.

Contact your local pension advisory committee representative to find out about pre-retirement workshops offered by the College Pension Plan and FPSE.

Keeping in Touch After Retirement

To assist in working more effectively with retired FPSE members, the BC Retired Teachers’ Association (BCRTA) has helped us to form a special Post-Secondary Educators' Branch of the BCRTA for College Pension Plan recipients. Membership in the BCRTA provides College Pension Plan recipients with a number of opportunities and services, as well as a chance to meet other retirees.

The BCRTA is recognized by the College Pension Board of Trustees as an important organization for retired members. Because of this, the Pension Corporation can deduct the annual membership fee for BCRTA from College Pension Plan pension payments at source.
